Barbados and around the ship

I guess we sound like real homebodies but I really did intend to go to the beach on Barbados. Instead, after getting up at noon and having lunch on Lido, we made a quick trip to shore to use the Internet. The Internet Cafe has been replaced by a machine that disperses cards with a login ID and password. You can use those codes in either a laptop or one of the PCs in a kiosk. The cost was $5.00 for 30 minutes compared to .75 a minute on the ship. So we paid our five bucks and spent 30 minutes checking email, banking and looking at facebook. We were soooooo hot by then that instead of walking a mile or so to the beach, we went back to the air conditioning in the ship.

We spent our day in Barbados in the beautiful sunshine in the pool on the ship. The wonderful thing about staying on board was that most people were ashore and we had the ship to ourselves.

This is the last port where we will have the luxury of the ship to ourselves until we get back to the west coast of Mexico. We have made plans for all of the rest of our port stops. We have never been further south than Venezuela and are excited to visit Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chili, Peru and Ecuador. At some of the ports we have to meet our tour as early as 7:00am........ and we've gotten use to sleeping until noon!!!

Our ship mates are interesting. The average age is 65. We are a little bit in the younger set!! All are seasoned travelers and most have never sailed on Carnival before. We were looking forward to spending some time in the Karaoke Lounge..... when we went there last night there were about 10 people there... only 3 singers and they were awful. Quite different from the sailings in the Caribbean on Carnival where the average age was closer to 40. The piano bar player is tops but it is real smoky in there. We stayed just outside and listened for a while. All of the entertainment in the Spectacular Theater have been good. The singers and dancers, a singer and last night a ventriloquist were all fun to watch. In five days there has been only one BINGO session. It had maybe 20 people show up. The passengers are NOT buying drinks and the casino is only about a quarter full. We are a bunch of “old fogies”. …....... nap time....

  1. ~That pool looks so nice and inviting...it was 16 degrees here earlier when Carey and I walked the 1/2 mile to 'school' (where we take our 2-day-a-week math classes). It sounds like you're having an awesome time! Love, Tatem~
~Can you get seasick on such a big ship? Are you on the one with a big slide that Tatem showed us? Does your room have a window? Are there big walls so people can't fall off the ship? Are there enough lifeboats for everyone? (various questions from Nathan, Stephen, Annamaria and Paul)~
