Equator Crossing Day

We crossed the equator a few minutes after noon today. I didn't see it. The Captain did a countdown “five – four – three – two – one – now” while I was standing in line for the Szechuan Stir Fry. Libby was on deck as all the passengers pointed their cameras to sea and took pictures of the equator as we crossed.

Afterwards, they had a little ceremony by the pool on the Lido Deck pouring Foster's Beer and bacon grease on the “polliwogs” and then they declared us all “shell backs” and threw the Captain in the swimming pool. It was a good thing he was wearing thick underwear because his soaking wet uniform was almost transparent when he got out of the pool. The four decks around the pool area were all full of people watching King Neptune and his court preform that crossing ceremony. After the crossing the singer from last night's show performed. People were dancing and singing along. And you think us old folks can't “cut a rug”.

I think I am supposed to get a trident tattoo now, having crossed the equator.

The air temperature is 81 and the water is about 80, all very pleasant. The sun is very bright and it will sunburn you very quickly. We spent about an hour in the pool, at the end of the giant slide, then back to our room for a nap. Our cabin was nice and bright. The room steward had left the curtain pulled back and a towel frog on the foot of the bed.

Up from our nap we went for dinner of steak and shrimp and then a comedy show. The performer was a writer for Jay Leno. Then back to our room. We have a tour early tomorrow. I think we dock at 7:00 am in Fortaleza.
